How to Pick a Software Company in Goa (and why Codanto is your best option)

Search for a software company in Goa and you will find a dozen that call themselves the best. They all have clean websites, a list of services and a promise of quality. None of that helps you decide, because none of it can be checked.

Someone asked us why Codanto is the best. We would rather give you the questions to ask any company, us included, and let you judge the answers. Then we will say plainly where we stand on each one.

What "best" should mean for a Goa business

The best software company for a Verna factory  is not the best for a Margao hotel group or a Panjim startup. "Best" is really a fit: can they build what you need, will they answer the phone in month eight, and is the price honest?

Goa adds its own conditions. Business slows and surges with the tourist season. Staff come and go. Internet at a beach shack is not the same as in an office in Patto. Your software company needs to have thought about these things before you mention them.

Questions to ask before you sign

Put these to every company you shortlist. The vague answers will tell you more than the good ones.

1. Who will actually write the code? Many agencies take the order and pass the work to freelancers or another firm. That adds a margin to your bill and a gap between you and the people doing the work.
2. Who will I talk to during the project? You want someone who knows the details, not only a salesperson.
3. How long, and what does the schedule depend on? A good answer names the things that could slow it down, including your own feedback.
4. What happens after launch? Ask for the support terms in writing.
5. What technology will you use, and why? The answer should be reasoned, not a fashionable name.
6. Have you built something like this? Ask to see it running or speak to someone who uses it.
7. Can I see the quote broken down? One lump sum makes comparison impossible.
8. Who owns the source code and the hosting accounts? The answer should be you.

In-house team and personal attention

Our work is done by our own team, in house. We do not subcontract the build. That matters for two reasons. You are not paying a middleman, and the person who hears your requirement is in the same room as the person who builds it, so less gets lost.

It also lets us give each project proper personal attention. We are not trying to be the biggest firm in the state. A client who rings with a question should reach someone who remembers the project, not a ticket queue. If a company cannot tell you who your contact will be, treat that as a warning sign.

A firm that has seen many kinds of business spots problems earlier. It will also tell you when a ready-made product is the smarter buy. On speed, we aim for quick turnaround, but a fast schedule should never mean skipped testing. Ask any company what they test before handover and who does it. A project delivered two weeks early that breaks during the December rush has cost you more than it saved.

Technology and pricing: how to compare honestly

On price, we keep our rates competitive, and our in-house setup is part of why. We are not going to quote you a percentage against other companies, because every quote covers different scope and the numbers are not comparable that way. Do the comparison yourself:

• Ask each company to list exactly what is included, page by page or feature by feature.
• Check what is not included: hosting, domain, content, revision rounds, training.
• Ask what a change request costs once the work has started.
• Be wary of any quote far below the others. Something has been left out, or you will pay for it later.

The cheapest quote and the best value are rarely the same thing, and a clear, itemised quote usually means the company has thought the job through.

Support after launch, and getting customers to the product

Software does not end at handover. Billing fails on a Saturday night, a payment gateway changes, a staff member deletes the wrong thing. We offer support around the clock, 24 x 7. When you evaluate this from anyone, ask what it covers: phone, WhatsApp or email, how fast the first reply comes, and whether a fix is included or charged.

The other gap we see is launch. A well-built website or app sitting unseen helps nobody. We can support your launch with social media marketing, so the same team that built the product helps people find it. If you only need the build, that is fine too. You are not obliged to take both.

What to do next

Write down what you want the software to do in plain language, with no technical terms. Include who will use it, how many people, and where the internet is weak. Send that brief to two or three companies, and compare their questions as much as their quotes. The ones who ask good questions usually build good software.
